Devout consumption of salty foods might be a potent risk factor for the development of gastric (stomach) cancer.

This study looked at the contribution of high salt diet to the burden of gastric (stomach) cancer in China. Researchers made use of data obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study. 

Researchers identified an upward movement in the incidence of gastric cancer morbidity and mortality among ardent consumers of salty foods. This study affirmed that frequent ingestion of salty foods was responsible for a significant number of cases and deaths from stomach cancer in China.
