Dropping the habit of smoking cannabis may have a positive effect on the improvement and resolution of respiratory symptoms, such as cough, wheezing, and sputum production, in young adults.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of quitting of smoking of cannabis on symptoms of respiratory ailments, such as cough, wheeze, difficulty in breathing, and sputum production. Researchers matched cannabis usage with the presence or absence of respiratory symptoms among 1,037 young adults.
Researchers found out that cough, wheezing, and sputum production improved significantly with cessation of cannabis smoking. This study pointed out that quitting of cannabis use may lead to the reduction in severity and even resolution of respiratory symptoms.
