This meta-analysis investigated the hypothesis that greater intake of allium vegetables is associated with decreased risk of having cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT). Researchers meticulously studied data and evidence obtained from 25 studies.
Data analysis revealed that upper aerodigestive tract cancer occurred at a lower rate among regular than infrequent consumers of allium vegetables, such as garlic and onions. This study pointed out that fondness for allium vegetables may help guard against the onset of cancer in the upper aerodigestive tract.
