Larger intake of ultra-processed foods may prime the cells of colon and rectum to become cancerous.
This meta-analysis looked at ultra-processed food consumption in relation to the occurrence of colorectal cancer. Researchers studied the results of 7 studies that examined a total of 18,673 colorectal patients and 462,292 persons without the disease.
Researchers observed a spike in the incidence of colorectal cancer among participants who indulged in ultra-processed foods. Based on the findings of this meta-analysis, it can be concluded that habitual ingestion of ultra-processed foods may raise an individual's risk of developing colorectal cancer.
