Boarding the high fiber diet train may drive up a man's chances of surviving cancer.
This study aimed to determine the impact of consuming diets high in fiber-containing foods on the burden of cancer mortality. Researchers looked at the eating habits and death records of 3,504 cancer patients for a duration of 6.8 years.
Researchers observed that eating more fiber-rich foods lowered a male—but not a female—participant's risk of dying from cancer. "This study found that higher dietary fiber intake was only associated with better survival in male cancer patients, not in female cancer patients," the authors concluded.
