Generous milk intake may promote the development of cancerous cells in lymphatic organs.
This study investigated the correlation between milk consumption and cancer risk. Using dietary questionnaires, researchers examined the milk intake of 15,914 individuals. The relative cancer risk was also assessed in all the subjects.
Researchers observed a high incidence of cancer of the lymphatic organs among subjects who drank 2 or more glasses of milk per day. High intake of milk decreased the odds of developing bladder cancer. Increased consumption of milk was found to contribute slightly to the development of cancers of the kidney and female reproductive organs (with the exception of the uterine cervix). The results of this study show that high intake of milk may increase an individual’s susceptibility to the development of cancer of the lymphatic organs.
