Regular consumption of diets rich in allium vegetables may decrease prostate cancer risk.
This research work was carried out to determine the effect of the consumption of allium vegetables on prostate cancer risk. Researchers conducted a thorough meta-analysis on data obtained from 132,192 subjects.
Researchers observed that subjects on diets high in allium vegetables, such as garlic, had slim chances of developing prostate cancer. However, onions were found to have little or no effect on prostate cancer risk. The results of this study provide evidence that high intake of allium vegetables, particularly garlic, may help inhibit the development of cancerous cells on the prostate gland.
