Smoking and gastric cancer: systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies.

Cigarette smoking may contribute positively to the development of cancerous cells and tumors in the stomach.

This meta-analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between cigarette smoking and gastric (stomach) cancer development risk. A total of 42 scientific articles were included in this meta-analysis. The research observed that current smokers had a higher risk of developing both cardia and non-cardia types of gastric cancer than never smokers. The results of this study show that a substantial increase in the risk of stomach cancer is associated with cigarette smoking.
