Individuals on high flavonoid diets may have low chances of suffering from deaths arising from cardiovascular diseases and other causes.
This meta-analysis determined how the ingestion of foods high in flavonoids and lignans affects cardiovascular and all-cause (total) mortality risk. Researchers pooled data and evidence from 22 eligible studies.
Researchers discovered that the higher the amounts and frequency of consumption of foods rich in flavonoids, the lower the likelihood of dying from cardiovascular diseases, and other ailments. Daily dietary intake of an additional 100 mg of flavonoids was found to cut down cardiovascular and total mortality risk by as much as 4% and 6% respectively. "Findings from this meta-analysis indicated that dietary flavonoids are associated with decreased risk of all-cause and CVD mortality," the researchers concluded.
