Including more plant foods loaded with fiber in our diet may help protect us from cardiovascular disease and lower the amount of markers of inflammation circulating in the blood.
This research work studied the impact of high fiber diet on blood levels of inflammatory biomarkers and cardiovascular disease risk. Researchers assessed the eating patterns, plasma concentrations of markers of inflammation, and likelihood of acquiring cardiovascular disease among 4,125 US men and women.
Researchers noted that frequent consumption of fiber-rich foods, particularly cereals, significantly reduced serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers and the propensity of cardiovascular disease occurring in men and women. The results of this study support the consumption of foods high in fiber for improved cardiovascular health.
