Favoring the consumption of healthful plant foods may diminish an individual's chances of suffering from premature deaths arising from chronic diseases.
This study assessed whether an association exists between the intake of healthy plant foods and the probability of dying from chronic diseases. Researchers tracked the dietary and mortality records of over half a million men and women who took part in 12 studies.
Researchers noticed that plant food consumers had lower death toll from cardiovascular ailments and other chronic diseases than participants on diets rich in animal foods. This study arrived at the conclusion that adopting a healthy plant-based diet may result in a significant decrease in chronic disease mortality risk.
