Strict adherence to a plant-based diet may help protect an individual from acquiring and dying prematurely from cardiovascular disease.
This study ascertained whether an association exists between the consumption of plant foods and the tendency of being diagnosed and dying from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Researchers sifted through data culled from 13 studies involving over 400,000 persons.
Researchers noted that the incident rates and death toll from cardiovascular disease declined significantly with greater intake of healthy plant foods. "These findings highlight the favorable role of healthful plant-based foods in reducing cardiovascular mortality and CVD," the authors concluded.
