The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between likeness for ultra-processed foods and total mortality risk. Researchers followed over 130,000 men and women residing in 5 different continents for an average of 10.2 years, monitoring their dietary choices and death records.
Researchers observed a high death toll from both cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular diseases among lovers of ultra-processed foods. The results of this study indicate that diets that encourage the consumption of ultra-processed foods may be a major contributing factor to the rising number of deaths from chronic diseases and other causes.
