Frequent vegetable consumption is inversely associated with hypertension among indigenous Africans

Eating generous portions of vegetables may help reduce an individual's probability of developing hypertension.

This study examined the influence of high dietary ingestion of vegetables on the burden of hypertension in indigenous Africans. Researchers collated the nutritional data and regularly measured the blood pressures of .16,455 men and women recruited from 5 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, and Burkina Faso.

Researchers observed that participants who ate 12 or more servings of vegetables had good chances of preventing hypertension. This study recommended increased level of consumption of vegetables as a dietary approach to slash the burden of hypertension among indigenous Africans.
