Fondness for ultra-processed foods may worsen kidney function in elderly men and women suffering from metablic syndrome.
This research work looked at the impact of dietary intake of ultra-processed foods on kidney function in individuals with metabolic syndrome. Researchers studied the level of consumption of ultra-processed foods and measured the estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR) in 1,700 elderly men and woman diagnosed with metabolic syndrome.
Researchers observed a decline in kidney function among participants who consumed the most amounts of ultra-processed foods. This study demonstrated that likeness for ultra-processed foods may adversely affect kidney function in elderly individuals suffering from metabolic syndrome.
