Elevated consumption of polyphenol-containing foods may help guard against the occurrence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
This study set out to answer the question: does eating foods high in polyphenols stack the odds of fending off non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in our favor? Researchers studied the types of foods consumed by 225 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and 450 healthy men and women.
Researchers noticed that participants who ate high amounts of foods rich in polyphenols, such as flavonoids and lignans, had low incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This study suggested that individuals can increase their level of protection against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by adding more polyphenol-containing foods to their diets.
