This study ascertained if increased ingestion of ultra-processed foods can lead to the development of depression and anxiety. A total of 183,474 persons participated in this study and provided information about their dietary choices and mental health over a 13-year period.
Researchers found out that ultra-processed food lovers were more likely to experience depression and anxiety than their counterparts who refrained from consuming these foods. This study provides robust evidence that indulgence in ultra-processed foods may set an individual on the path to developing depression and anxiety.
