This study clarified the association between the frequency of consumption of foods rich in antioxidants and fiber and the occurrence of depressive symptoms in adolescent girls. Researchers compared the diets and incidence of depression among 988 Iranian adolescent girls aged 12-18 years.
Researchers discovered that participants on diets rich in foods high in fiber and antioxidants were less likely to experience depressive symptoms. This study provides strong evidence that dietary intake of fiber and antioxidants may offer adolescent girls with extra layer of protection against depression. .
