Eating seaweeds regularly may make depression less likely to occur in an individual.
This study examined whether frequent intake of seaweeds can help to keep depression away. Researchers collated and analyzed data on the rate of seaweed consumption and occurrence of depression among 500 Japanese employees aged 20-74 years.
Researchers observed that participants who consumed seaweeds daily were less likely to experience depressive symptoms compared to infrequent and non consumers of these plant foods. This 2019 study of Japanese men and women found a protective association between fondness for seaweeds and depression.
