High consumption of whole-foods, plant-based diets may relieve symptoms in osteoarthritis patients.
This study examined the effectiveness of whole-foods, plant-based diet (WFPB) in the alleviation of symptoms in osteoarthritis patients. Researchers fed 19 osteoarthritis patients (the intervention) with whole-foods, plant-based diets while 18 patients (the control group) were allowed to continue with their current diets for six weeks. The pulse, body temperature, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and relevant physical variables were measured in all the subjects.
At the end of the feeding period, members of the intervention group reported significant improvement in symptoms compared to the control group. The findings of this study support the hypothesis that whole-foods, plant-based diets may mitigate the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
