Fondness for alcohol may reduce sleep quality in men and women.
This study examined sleep quality based on the level of alcohol consumption. Researchers compared sleep parameters, including sleep duration and the occurrence of obstructive sleep apnea (snoring), between consumers and non-consumers of alcohol in a study population comprising of more than 11,000 Chinese men and women.
Researchers observed that alcohol consumers were at risk of suffering from diminished sleep quality, obstructive sleep apnea, and shorter duration of sleep than non-consumers of alcoholic beverages. This study of Chinese men and women documented that alcohol drinkers are prone to have poor sleep quality.
