This study explored the relationship between taking statin drugs and the odds of being infected with herpes zoster virus. Researchers tracked the rate of statin usage among 47,359 patients with herpes zoster infection and 142,077 individuals without the disease.
The team of investigators noted that individuals on statin therapy had high chances of suffering from herpes zoster infection. Evidence from this study indicate that statin users may be at increased risk of contracting herpes zoster infection.
