Alcohol drinking may increase an individual's chances of having dry eye syndrome.
Dry eye syndrome, also known medically as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is a condition in which the eyes are unable to produce enough tears to moisten the cornea, resulting in dryness and inflammation of the cornea. This study evaluated the relationship between alcohol consumption and risk of developing dry eye syndrome. Researchers used data extracted from 10 studies.
Researchers noticed that alcohol intake raised the odds of suffering from dry eye syndrome. The results of this study demonstrated that frequent consumption of alcohol may be a contributing factor to the development of dry eye syndrome.
