Regular drinking of alcohol may raise an individual's chances of developing myelodysplastic syndromes.
Myelodysplastic syndromes are a group of disorders that impair the ability of the bone marrow to produce normal blood cells. This research work studied the correlation between alcohol drinking and the risk of developing myelodysplastic syndromes by means of a meta-analysis. A team of Chinese researchers collated and examined data drawn out from 9 studies.
Researchers observed that alcohol consumers exhibited a greater propensity to come down with myelodysplastic syndromes. This study adds to the existing body of evidence pointing to alcohol consumption as a contributing factor to the development of myelodysplastic syndromes. .
