Light, moderate, and heavy drinking of alcohol may raise the risk of metabolic syndrome.
This study was carried out to ascertain the risk of metabolic syndrome associated alcohol drinking. Researchers matched frequency of alcohol consumption with the occurrence of metabolic syndrome in a study population comprising of 3,833 Korean men and women aged 40-69 years.
The team of investigators observed that the odds of developing metabolic syndrome were stacked against light, moderate, and heavy drinkers of alcoholic beverages, particularly liquor. This study sheds more light on the metabolic syndrome-inducing effect of alcohol.
