Dietary Fat and Cholesterol and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Older Adults: The Health ABC Study
Avid consumption of eggs and other cholesterol-containing foods may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in elderly men and women.
This study examined the influence of high intake of fatty and cholesterol-rich foods on the incidence of cardiovascular diseases among older men and women. The study population consisted of more than 1,900 men and women within the age bracket of 70-79 years. All the participants were followed for 9 years.
Researchers noted that participants on diets high in egg and other cholesterol-containing foods exhibited high risk of developing cardiovascular disease. This study suggests that high cholesterol diet may increase an elderly individual's predisposition to cardiovascular disease.
