Avid consumption of caffeine-containing beverages during pregnancy may up the risk of miscarriage in pregnant women.
This study investigated the hypothesis that dietary exposure to caffeine during pregnancy can put a woman at high risk of suffering from miscarriage. Researchers studied the caffeine intake levels of 314 pregnant women with successful deliveries and 160 women who miscarried their pregnancies.
Researchers found out habitual consumption of more than 300 mg/day of caffeine, particularly from coffee, during pregnancy doubled the risk of miscarriage in women. This study confirmed that high intake of caffeine-rich beverages may be a risk factor for miscarriage.
