Regular use of cannabis may raise a man's risk of dying prematurely.
This study investigated the correlation between the intake of cannabis and the risk of suffering from early death in men. Researchers monitored the cannabis usage and mortality records of 45,540 young Swedish military recruits for a duration of 15 years.
Researchers found a 2.8-fold increase in the rate of mortality, particularly from suicide and violence, among participants who had used cannabis on more than 50 occasions compared to their colleagues who refrained from using this psychoactive substance . This study concluded that high level of consumption of cannabis was linearly associated with greater risk of premature death in men.
