Evaluation of the Association Between Prenatal Cannabis Use and Risk of Developmental Delay

Consistent consumption of cannabis by a woman before pregnancy may raise her children's chances of experiencing developmental delay.

This study analyzed if a mother's use of cannabis before pregnancy is tied to delayed developmental milestones in children. Researchers matched the cannabis usage habits of 3,742 women with the attainment of developmental milestones in their children.

Researchers observed that women who took cannabis before pregnancy reported a significant impediment in the accomplishment of major developmental milestones, particularly in communication, in their children. This study arrived at the conclusion that cannabis intake by a woman prior to pregnancy may hinder the achievement of developmental milestones in her children.
