Strict adherence to a high fiber diet may help guard against the onset of anxiety and depression in individuals with hypertension.
This research work studied the correlation between dietary intake of fiber and the incidence of anxiety and depression in patients with essential hypertension. A total of 459 hypertensive patients enrolled for this study and provided information about the types of foods they consumed and whether they had been diagnosed with anxiety or depression.
The team of investigators discovered that frequent ingestion of dietary fiber diminished the risk of depression and anxiety in hypertensive patients. The data from this study support the hypothesis that high fiber diet may help curtail the development of depression and anxiety in persons with essential hypertension.
