Preference for fiber-containing foods may reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms in asthmatic patients.
This study assessed the consumption of high fiber foods in relation to the control of symptoms of asthma. The dietary and medical records of 35,380 French men and women recruited from the NutriNet-Santé cohort were utilized for this study.
Researchers observed that regular eaters of fiber-rich foods, particularly cereals and fruits, had lesser number and better control of asthmatic symptoms. "Our results suggested that higher intake of dietary fiber, mostly insoluble fiber and fiber from cereals, was associated with fewer asthma symptoms and greater asthma control," the study concluded.
