Keen consumption of fiber from vegetables and soy foods may help fight off depression.
This study investigated the risk of depression among high consumers of fiber-rich foods. More than 20,000 Chinese men and women volunteered for this study and their dietary habits and mental health were assessed using food frequency and health questionnaires respectively.
Researchers identified an inverse association between increased consumption of soluble, soy, and vegetable fiber and reduced risk of depression. The results of this study support dietary intake of vegetables, soy foods, and soluble fiber as a viable preventive measure against depression.
