The purpose of this study was to confirm the protective effects of dietary fiber against the development of renal cell (kidney) carcinoma. Researchers used data obtained from 767 patients with kidney cancer and 1,534 healthy individuals.
Researchers found a protective association between habitual intake of fiber from vegetables and the occurrence of renal cell carcinoma. This study provides evidence supporting the beneficial effect of high vegetable diets on prevention of kidney cancer.
