Generous consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages may increase the incidence of obesity in children.
This research work aimed to determine the role excessive intake of sugar-sweetened drinks play in the development of childhood obesity. The study population included 548 school children with an average age of 11.7 years who were followed for 19 months.
Researchers discovered that children who drank large quantities of sugared beverages had a high tendency to be obese. The authors concluded that "consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks is associated with obesity in children."
