High dietary exposure to phytochemicals from plant foods may help thwart the development of glioma— a tumor originating from the glial cells in the brain and spinal cord.
This study examined whether an association exists between dietary ingestion of phytochemicals from plant foods and the probability of acquiring glioma—a tumor originating from the glial cells in the brain and spinal cord. Researchers compared the dietary choices of 506 glioma patients with that of 506 individuals without the disease.
Researchers noticed that glioma occurred at a low frequency among participants with high intake of phytochemicals, such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, carotenes, and resveratrol, from plant foods. Based on the data from this study, it can be concluded that adhering to a plant-based diet may confer us with significant protection against glioma.
