Generous intake of whole grains may confer an individual with significant protection against hepatocellular (liver) cancer.
This study examined how high dietary ingestion of whole grains and other fiber-rich foods influences the risk of hepatocellular (liver) cancer. A group of researchers from China and the United States evaluated the dietary and health data of 125,455 US men and women with an average follow-up time of 24.2 years.
The research team found out that participants who reported consistent consumption of generous portions of whole grains demonstrated a significant reduction in liver cancer risk. This study provides evidence that diets rich in whole grains seem to be protective against hepatocellular cancer.
