Upping the intake levels of whole grains may help reduce the rate of cognitive decline in older adults.
This study investigated how the consumption of whole grains affects cognitive function in older adults. Up to 3,326 US men and women with an average age of 75 years enrolled for this study and their diets and cognitive function were evaluated using validated food frequency questionnaires and cognitive tests respectively.
Researchers noticed that eating a diet rich in whole grains slowed down the speed of cognitive decline and memory loss. This study proved that high dietary ingestion of whole grains might be effective in curbing cognitive impairment in older adults.
