Sticking to a high whole grain diet may help ward off esophageal, stomach, and colorectal cancer.
This meta-analysis compared the incidence of digestive cancer among frequent, infrequent, and non-consumers of whole grains. Researchers sifted through data drawn out from 35 studies.
The research team discovered that frequent consumers of whole grains had slight chances of developing different types of cancer in the digestive tract, including stomach, colorectal, and esophageal cancer, compared to infrequent and non-consumers. "Our result supports the dietary guidelines that increase whole grains intake to reduce the risk of digestive tract cancer," the authors concluded.
