Obesity has been linked to the development of different chronic diseases, including cancer, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular ailments. This meta-analysis examined whether adding more whole grains to our diet can help to keep excess weight at bay. Data drawn out from several studies were considered for this meta-analysis.
Researchers observed a healthier body weight among habitual consumers of whole grains. "For the time being, whole grain consumption can be recommended as one of the features of the diet that may help control body weight but also because is associated with a lower risk to develop type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer," the authors concluded.
