High intake of soy foods and isoflavones may protect women against the development of breast cancer.
The aim of this research work was to identify the relationship between the consumption of isoflavones and soy foods and the incidence of breast cancer. Researchers analyzed data and evidences obtained from 7 cohort and 14 case-control studies. They found out that habitual consumers of foods rich in isoflavones, such as miso and tofu, had low breast cancer risk. Increased intake of diets high in isoflavones was found to decrease breast cancer risk by 20% in this study. The findings of this meta-analysis show that high consumption of soy and isoflavone-rich foods contribute positively to the prevention of breast cancer in women.
