Association between Dietary Inflammatory Index and Gastric Adenocarcinoma: A Multicenter Case-Control Study in Brazil

Diets that favor the consumption of proinflammatory foods may trigger the formation, growth, and spread of cancerous cells and tumors in the stomach.

​This study investigated the hypothesis that consuming a proinflammatory diet may make an individual more likely to develop gastric (stomach) cancer. The study population consisted of 1,645 Brazilian men and women.

Researchers found a high rate of stomach cancer among participants on diets rich in proinflammatory foods. The findings of this study revealed that eating a proinflammatory diet may drive up the risk of gastric cancer in men and women.
