Upping the intake of ultra-processed foods can heighten an individual's risk of developing coronary artery disease.
This study assessed the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in men and women based on the frequency of consumption of ultra-processed foods. A total of 2,006 out of the 13,548 adults who provided dietary and health information for this study was diagnosed with coronary artery disease over a period of 27 years.
Researchers noticed that the odds of developing coronary artery disease were stacked against habitual eaters of ultra-processed foods. The data from this study suggest that individuals can raise their chances of having coronary artery disease by adding more ultra-processed foods to their diets.
