This study assessed how ultra-processed food consumption can affect the risk of developing coronary artery disease (CAD). Researchers studied the eating patterns of 11,542 middle-aged US men and women in comparison with that of 2,006 patients with coronary artery disease.
Researchers found a high proportion of coronary artery disease among participants who ate generous portions of ultra-processed foods on a regular basis. This study suggested that fondness for ultra-processed foods may give rise to coronary artery disease.
