The odds of having type 2 diabetes may be stacked against individuals who are cigarette smokers.
This study assessed the correlation between cigarette smoking and the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Researchers systematically evaluated data extracted from 25 prospective cohort studies that assessed more than 45,000 cases of diabetes.
Analysis of the data obtained from the 25 studies revealed that the rate of occurrence of type 2 diabetes was higher among individuals who were cigarette smokers, especially active smokers, than in their counterparts who never smoked. The results of this study show that cigarette smoking may put an individual at high risk of having type 2 diabetes.
