Fondness for coffee may result in an upsurge in the risk of diabetes nephropathy and other renal complications of type 2 diabetes.
This research work reviewed the hypothesis that coffee consumption may lead to the development of diabetes nephropathy. Researchers studied dietary and health data obtained from individuals recruited from the UK Biobank study, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), and the FinnGen consortium Cohorts.
Coffee lovers were observed to have a high tendency to suffer from diabetic nephropathy and other renal complications of type 2 diabetes in this study. Evidence from this study showed that habitual drinking of coffee may accelerate the onset of diabetic nephropathy and other kidney complications of the disease.
