Adequate consumption of cruciferous vegetables may help protect individuals from developing type 2 diabetes.
This study assessed the relationship between the consumption of citrus fruits and cruciferous vegetables and the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by meta-analysis. Data extracted from 7 prospective cohort studies were analyzed for this study. The research team discovered that high intake of cruciferous vegetables reduced the odds of developing type diabetes. However, regular consumption of citrus fruits was found to have no effect on type 2 diabetes risk in this study. This meta-analysis provides significant evidence that high dietary ingestion of cruciferous vegetables may contribute positively to the prevention of type 2 diabetes.
