High compliance with a vegetarian diet may make an individual less likely to suffer from hypertension.
The purpose of this study was to confirm the protective effect of vegetarian diets against high blood pressure (hypertension). With the aid of validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers evaluated the dietary choices and regularly measured the blood pressure of 500 Taiwanese men and women.
Researchers discovered that vegetarians had healthier diastolic and systolic blood pressure and lower propensity to become hypertensive than their animal food-consuming peers. The findings of this study support the consumption of plant foods as part of a dietary approach to prevent hypertension.
