Sustained consumption of pro-inflammatory foods may promote the development of cognitive impairment in older men and women.
This study examined the influence pro-inflammatory diets exert on the occurrence of cognitive decline in elderly men and women. A total of 947 older American men and women enrolled for this study and volunteered information about their eating behaviors and mental health.
Researchers observed that impairment in cognitive function was commonly found among participants who regularly ate high amounts of pro-inflammatory foods. This study suggested that heightened consumption of pro-inflammatory diets may put an elderly individual at risk of experiencing a significant decline in cognitive function.
