Favoring the intake of ultra-processed foods may increase an individual's susceptibility to metabolic syndrome.
This study clarified the relationship between the ingestion of a high ultra-processed diet and the odds of developing metabolic syndrome. Researchers used a combination of validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records to assess the dietary habits and incidence of metabolic syndrome among 5,147 men and women from China.
Researchers found out that the risk of acquiring metabolic syndrome rose by 17% among fans of ultra-processed food consumption. Data from this study indicate that habitual eaters of ultra-processed foods may be prone to suffering from metabolic syndrome.
