Preference for tea may trigger the onset of metabolic syndrome in older adults.
This study compared the incidence of metabolic syndrome among individuals at different levels of the tea consumption ladder. Researchers surveyed more than 3,000 Chinese men and women aged 60 years and above over a 5-year period. A total of 406 cases of metabolic syndrome were recorded among the participants during the course of the study.
Researchers found out that participants who consumed the highest amount of tea were more likely to receive a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome than their counterparts who refrained from drinking these beverages. This study arrived at the conclusion that frequent intake of tea may facilitate the onset of metabolic syndrome in older adults.
